President Donald Trump’s administration has taken action to stop New York City’s congestion pricing charges.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy in a letter notified New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday that the Federal Highway Administration’s approval of the pilot program was “not authorized by law” ”.
“New York State’s congestion pricing plan faces a slap from working-class Americans and small business owners,” Duffy said in a statement obtained on Fox News’s digital numbers. “Commuters entering New York City using the highway system have already funded the construction and improvement of these highways by paying gasoline taxes and other taxes. But now, Toll plans to make drivers less free highway alternatives, and instead charge more money from workers to pay for the transit system rather than the highway. This is backward and unfair. ”
“The program also hurts small businesses in New York that rely on customers in New Jersey and Connecticut,” he added. “Finally, it hinders business flows into New York by increasing the cost of trucks, which in turn may make consumers more Expensive. Every American should be able to enter New York City, regardless of how its economic mode is reserved for a few elites.”
