It took nearly three months, but the highest Democrat in New York State finally recognized the New York City Democratic mayor nominee Zohran Mamdani.

“The mayor of New York City should have Donald Trump And make life more affordable for New Yorkers. That’s @zohrankmamdani,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a social media post Sunday night.

The governor’s recognition is important because it may help Mamdani ensure support from other key members of the party body. And, that could put more pressure on two other top Democrats in New York State who are still retaining support for Mamdani – Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the first two Democratic leaders in Congress.

Mamdani said in a statement that he “thanks to the governor for unifying our party’s support – and the work she has done to stand with President Trump to get free lunch meals for our children and expand access to parenting.”

Hochul announces her support for Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic Socialist State Councilor in Queens New York Times.

“I have had candid conversations with him over the past few months. We have been divided,” the governor wrote. “But in our conversation, I heard a leader share my commitment to New York where kids can grow safely among their neighbors and every family can reach opportunities. New York City Affordable – a goal I enthusiastically support. ”

Poll Position: How big is Mamdani leading the way in the New York Mayoral Competition?

Curtis Sliwa, co-founder of The Guardian Angel, is the second consecutive election as a Republican mayoral candidate for the Democratic-dominated city, and is a distant third in the polls Eric AdamsHe dropped in fourth place after deciding to skip the Democratic primary election for anemia poll.

Both Sliwa and Sliwa and Adams have repeatedly promised to compete in recent weeks, as multiple reports say Trump’s advisers have played executive positions while both mayors dropped out of school.

Mamdani swept the Democratic Party’s primary victory, thanks to a dynamic campaign that focuses primarily on affordability and the high cost of living in New York City. This is supported by supporters of grassroots military and the highest national progress champion, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Bernie Sanders of New York and Vermont.

Mamdani has cleverly used social media platforms including Tiktok, along with low-key voters. He proposed to eliminate fares to ride New York City’s vast bus system, make CUNY (University of New York City) “no tuition fees”, freeze rent on municipal houses, provide “free parenting” for children under the age of 5, and establish a government-run grocery store.

Mamdani has been severely criticized by competition for her past critical comments about the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and has proposed shifting certain responsibilities from the New York Police Department and focusing on social services and community-based programs.

Hawkel says “It’s obvious that our police should have all the resources to keep our streets and subway safe. I urge him to make sure the NYPD has strong leadership – he agrees.”

The governor also spoke about Mamdani’s past critical comments about Israel.

“We discussed the need to fight the rise of anti-Semitism urgently and explicitly. I’m happy to see him meet with Jewish leaders across the city, listening directly and addressing their concerns,” Hochul said.

Hochul’s endorsement may not only benefit Mamdani, but it can also help the governor seeking reelection next year while gaining support from the Democratic base for progress.

Mamdani praised Hochul for his focus on affordability.

“I look forward to fighting with her, continuing her money in the pockets of New Yorkers and building a record of a safer, stronger New York City where no one is forced to leave so that they can afford to raise their families,” he said.

But New York’s Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, a top Trump ally, expects to launch his 2026 campaign for governor later this year, targeting Hawkel.

“At the moment when New Yorkers seek strong leadership among the majority oppose Zohran Mamdani, Kathy Hochul embraced the angry communist who would destroy New York, making it unaffordable and more dangerous – once again making criminals and communists New Yorkers, the last, the last of New Yorkers.” Stefanik debated in a statement.
