Charlie Kirk Assassin allegedly robbery
Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith, FBI Director Kash Patel and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox provided details about the “tax” investigation and worked to identify and locate the alleged assassin suspected of killing Charlie Kirk.

Washington, Utah – Tyler Robinson, 22, has been identified as a suspicious killer Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk Assassinated on the University of Utah campus.
“We got him on the evening of September 11,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced in a news briefing Friday morning.
“A family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for information Robinson admitted to them or suggested that he had committed the incident.”

Background and growth
Since the Facebook post viewed by Fox News Digital has been deleted, depicting Robinson’s life in Washington County, Utah, full of family milestones, birthdays and school achievements.
By 2021, Robinson is proven to move to Utah State University (USU) and has photos outside the Richard and Mooneen Anderson engineering buildings.

“Utah State University confirmed that the suspect was arrested for killing Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson briefly attended Utah State in 2021,” the public university said in a statement to USU Fox News.
“We can also confirm that he is a former engineering major and is consistent with his one semester major,” the school added.

Investigation and arrest
During the press conference, Cox outlined the timeline that led to Robinson’s arrest.
The information was passed to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, an investigator at Utah Valley University (UVU) and the FBI.

Monitoring and identifying
Investigators said surveillance video showed Robinson arrived at UVU at 8:29 a.m. on September 10 shortly before the shooting. Later, a family member confirmed to authorities that Robinson owns a vehicle that matches the description.
“In the video, he observed a normal maroon T-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with white logo and light-colored shoes,” Cox said.

Witness statement
Family members told investigator Robinson “has become more politicized in recent years.”
“Family members mentioned a recent incident where Robinson attended dinner before September 10,” Cox said. “In the conversation, Robinson mentioned that Charlie Kirk came to UVU. They talked about why they didn’t like him and his views.”
Investigators also spoke with Robinson’s roommate.
“Investigators interviewed that roommate, who said his roommate was referring to Robinson, making a joke,” Cox explained. “These messages include…the need to retrieve the rifle from the drop point…the message related to visually viewing the area left by the rifle…the carving bullets…and a message referring to wrapping the rifle in a towel.”

The weapon has been restored
The investigation led to the restoration of a rifle north of UVU’s campus driving road, where authorities found a rifle wrapped in a “dark towel.”
“The rifle was determined to be a 98.36 movement bolt action rifle,” Cox said. “The rifle has an oscilloscope installed on top of it.

Governor: Robinsons “do the right thing”
Cox quickly shut down Robinson, hailing law enforcement and the public.
“We are grateful for law enforcement across the state,” he said. “We are grateful for everyone who found this person and brought justice in such a short time.”

The Republican governor thanked Robinson’s family for doing the “right thing.”
“I want to thank the public for being so involved in comment videos, helping us send tips and helping us get there,” Cox said. “I want to thank Tyler Robinson’s family who did the right thing in this situation and was able to bring him into law enforcement as well.”
