When asked about her trip to Washington, D.C. on Monday, Whitmer placed the folder in front of her face again before she was asked about her face at the event at the Detroit Economic Club on Monday.
“…I don’t want to take my pictures, that’s all. I kind of wish I didn’t put the folder in front of my face, but anyway. You know I’m there…I just wrote a book about learning to laugh at myself, so I’m good at it. We all have our moments,” Whitmer said.

Michigan governor’s trip to Washington last week brought her 2028 presidential ambitions into national dialogue as she sent a diplomatic tone with Trump. She carefully criticized Trump’s tariffs while saying she understood “the motivations behind the tariffs” and even agreed that Trump we “need to make more in the United States.”

Whitmer’s Virus Oval Office moment marks her second meeting with Trump in less than a month. When Trump signed the execution order and answered questions from the press, he said Whitmer “doed well” as governor and called her “very good guy” a breakthrough in his typical attack line against his character.
Brad Bannon, Democratic strategist and president of Bannon Communications Research, told Fox News Digital.
Bannon warned that Whitmer, the 2028 presidential candidate, was too close to Trump and could endanger her status as a “first-level presidential candidate” for Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Kentucky’s Andy Beshear and Gavin Newsom, California.

When Trump signed the execution order, calling for investigations into two first government aides who criticized his actions, Whitmer’s office said she was taken into the room “without notice” and that her appearance was not “an endorsement of the actions taken or statements made.”
But Trump called the questions “bipartisan” and joked: “We’re all standing there and cutting the ribbon. OK, Gretchen?”

Whitmer’s diplomatic move last week seemed to make her a party for Democratic governor, many who had declared presidential ambitions in 2028 and opposed Trump’s tariffs as governor JB Pritzker Illinois and Newsom work independently with trading partners in an attempt to mitigate damage to their state economy.
