White House Correspondents’ Association abruptly cancels anti-Trump comedian headliner for annual dinner

White House Communications Association (WHCA) Saturday revealed it canceled its comedian’s headlines at its annual dinner next month.

In the memorandum WHCA President Eugene Daniels sent to colleagues and the board unanimously decided to abandon the comedy performance at dinner as part of a “re-review” of the tradition.

“At this moment in journalism, I want to make sure that the focus is not on divisive politics but is entirely designed to award outstanding work to our colleagues and provide scholarships and guidance to the next generation of journalists,” Daniels wrote.

The decision comes a day after White House Vice President Communications and Staff Taylor Budowich criticized the WHCA for recruiting Ruffin.

“This year’s @WHCA dinner will be hosted by the second-time speed comedian who is previewing the event by calling the “killer,” they want to ‘feel like humans, but they shouldn’t feel that way because you’re not.” What’s more, what kind of responsible journalists will attend what kind of company? Budowich wrote on X.

Blovic also mocked Larufen’s decision.

“@whca has no responsibility, just a statement of warning – many WHCA members point to Eugene, who made the decision to unilaterally recruit and sign the hate-filled comedian. However, they are all watching it openly, watching it openly. It is an allegation of the troubled organization. Good ride!” Blovic wrote.

Although Daniels wrote that he has been planning to make this change over the past few weeks, Ruffin recently promoted her show Thursday.

“I always open my Google docs because they made jokes there and had few ideas, but I can’t help but want…we have some paths, right?” Rufen said Daily Beast Podcast. “The news happened in such a wonderful clip, how should we hit that moving target? And, how could you forget anything happened, do you know what I mean?”
