The latest lawsuit aims to stop layoffs and government migrations to move student loans and special education services outside the department as Trump works to transfer responsibilities to the U.S. Department of Energy.
For example, Trump announced last week that the Small Business Administration would handle student loans as part of the program.
“Devastating cuts and layoffs Ministry of Education “The young people in Washington and their families will be directly hurt. Our office will work to defend our students from education and health from President Trump’s illegal orders,” Brown said in a statement.

The department’s layoffs have led to the closure of the National Office of Civil Rights Outreach Services, which investigates students’ claims about discrimination and sexual assault. The Brown office said federal funding and approvals have also been postponed.
The lawsuit argues that the Trump administration’s executive order is illegal and that efforts to demolish the U.S. Department of Energy can only be authorized by Congress. Republican lawmakers have introduced legislation to eliminate the department, but have not yet been approved by any chamber of commerce on Capitol Hill.

The lawyer general’s lawsuit also claims that the massive layoffs violate the Administrative Procedure Act, which establishes procedures for how the federal government’s executive bodies propose and enact regulations.
