Officials said the U.S. Postal Service temporarily closed the post office in Torrance, relocated the mail service and destroyed thousands of mail and parcels after testing showed the facility had been contaminated with asbestos.
USPS spokesman Natashi Garvins said in a written statement that the facility was temporarily closed July 26 The mail service has been relocated to other regional facilities such as Hawthorne and El Segundo.

“While we understand the importance of these items to customers, these steps are taken according to federal, state and local,” Garvins said.
Unknown how long the post office will remain.
