The world’s juniors have been better for Americans in recent years: each of the last four gold medal matches between the two countries has gone to Americans, the most recent in 2021. But, this is a major league.
The first meeting of the two countries returned to the 1976 Canadian Cup in their best form, with the Canadian team winning 4-2. It was not until the 1996 World Cup hockey lost seven of its first eight meetings and tied to another match that the Americans won the first victory of the northern neighbors.
The United States won the World Cup that year and took home three games against Canada, but since then it has been primarily Canadian dominance.
From 1998 to 2016, Canada entered face-to-face with four countries, and Canada defeated the Americans 6-1, with three of the victories definitely being the stomach and intestines of the United States.
Canada won the 2002 Olympic gold medal in Salt Lake City, but more famously, Sidney Crosby’s gold goal was also at the expense of the United States in front of the Vancouver crowd.

Four years later, Canada once again defeated the United States in the Olympic semifinals. The only victory in the aforementioned leap was during the group stage of the 2010 Olympics, with the last meeting last week when Canada won 4-2 in the 2016 Toronto World Hockey Game. So it has been a while since the stars and stripes have the right to brag.
But the best players in the country will be in the interruption after the NHL, schedule, travel and COVID-19. But a year ago, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the new four-national confrontation had been born and that NHL players will return to the Olympics in 2026 and 2030.
However, as the game approaches, some skeptics appear: “This game is fake. Will the players care? If it’s like Edwin Diaz from the World Baseball Classic What to do if you have injuries?”
But that brings us to today, with the nearly decade of missed opportunities combined with a fierce political landscape taking the best competition for hockey to a new level, and this criticism is no longer the case.

Starting this month, Canadian crowds booed the U.S. national anthem at a sporting event the U.S. is visiting in a response to President Donald Trump’s upcoming tariffs on Canadian goods. It was already the electric crowd that caught fire, and even when Canada’s Connor McDavid was launched in the first phase. However, the US defense emerged, with the Americans scoring three unresolved goals, with their first victory against Canada in nearly 15 years.
