Global Foundrya startup that provides cloud infrastructure for Unreal Engine 5 game developers has announced a new Global Foundry Commission grant for small game developers.
Global Foundry CEO Albert Reed said in an interview with GamesBeat that the goal of targeting solo and small game teams is to accelerate the development of their projects by granting select teams free infrastructure.

“Before founding the game studio, I understand directly how important it is to use great tools to timely roll out games and team retention,” Reed said. “Epic gives developers amazing cloud-based tools, including tribes, but deploys and operates them by the team itself. We built Universal Foundry to help teams work more effectively – letting them focus on making great games and publishing them faster, rather than managing servers.”

Reed said that if the technical requirements are met, a small Unreal Engine that launches mobile, console or PC games in 2025 or 2026 is eligible. For selected teams, Universal Foundry will offer free services through its game’s launch window or by the end of 2026, whichever comes first. Grant recipients will be notified by June 30, 2025.
Universal Foundry accelerates the Unreal Engine 5 game development team, the first-of-its-kind fund cloud infrastructure of various sizes is both secure and scalable. Universal Pictures’ tribal continuous integration (CI) infrastructure reduces the need for team maintenance of on-premises servers and implements custom cloud deployments, ultimately increasing the efficiency of the game team.
Only some teams that utilize Universal Foundry to serve their games include Glass Bottom Games, OK Dinosaur and other yet-to-be-announced Triple-A champions.
Reed co-founded the company in 2024 with Lucian Cesca. Reed has a broad background in game development, and CESCA is rooted in a high-security infrastructure engineering background. Reed has led Boston-based Demiurge Studios for nearly 15 years, overseeing the team’s growth and contribution to major video game franchises and releasing several original games.
Reed and Cesca met while working in the financial services business. They started about a year ago based on the core idea of providing cloud infrastructure so that game developers can have good experience working with cloud-based game engines.

“In fact, few lasers are focused on improving developers’ PING time, and that’s what we want to do,” Reed said. “What our products have to do is do so so that when engineers check in changes, CPP files or anything else, it’s granted to the artists and tools teams in QA as soon as possible. No one has to sit in a bar of progress for a long time.”
Epic Games offers some tools that make it possible, but they are complex and game developers want to make video games instead of operating a bunch of servers in the cloud.
“In fact, there is no reason to have 5,000 developers build their own cloud infrastructure in this era. That’s how we adapt,” Reed said. “I think the game has this unique problem because we have more assets, texture and models and all the other things that need to happen quickly. We are behind making the developer experience really efficient and very good. The solution is to start accelerating so that you don’t have to do everything on your local workstation.”
The company signed its first company in the third quarter of last year. Universal subscriptions are about $1,000 per month. Grants are a way to help independent developers pay for these fees.
