A Look at a Very Silicon Valley Approach to Repopulation

Michael Calore: I sat next to the window of the wired office and I looked straight into the Bay Bridge and saw Sebertruk all day long as I looked out.

Zoë Schiffer: Oh, my goodness.

Lauren Goode: Almost like Seberak is just reappearing in real time. They are spawning, they spawn more seiberak. Is this the worst guide ever this episode has?

Michael Calore: Do you know? I will accept it.

Lauren Goode: OK

Michael Calore: I will definitely accept it.

This is connected Incredible valleya program about the people of Silicon Valley, power and influence. Today, we are talking about famous sports, and how the push to increase birth rates is trending among some of the largest and richest names in Silicon Valley. We will discuss some of the history of primatatimism, which is the big advocate of the moment, and what all this points to. I am Michael Calore, Director of Consumer Technology and Culture, Wired.

Lauren Goode: I’m Lauren Goode, and I’m a senior writer on Wired.

Zoë Schiffer: I am Zoë Schiffer, Business and Industry Director, Wired.

Lauren Goode: So a few weeks ago when we talked about dating apps, I thought, oh no, you guys would be so inclined to me because I think I probably have the most experience, I probably have the most experience, but now I feel like Mike, you are like you, I just want to be like, “Well, Zoë tells us, tell us how babies feel.”

Zoë Schiffer: I do feel like I’m working on a population decline. I have two, and I will never have them again, thank you.

Michael Calore: Setting the scene here, neither Lauren nor I have children.

Lauren Goode: Zoe is now one of our big bosses at Wired. So I just say in a normal environment, rather than the podcast setting, I probably wouldn’t sit across from her and say, “Tell me about your experience with babies and parents,” but for the podcast.

Zoë Schiffer: Lauren, let’s put all our self into practice, come on.

Lauren Goode: Me too.

Zoë Schiffer: We are friends.

Lauren Goode: Yes, we are friends.

Michael Calore: Well, to start the conversation, I think we should define what principles are and who are the biggest supporters of the movement.

Zoë Schiffer: I thought you were going to say, we were going to define what a baby is. Like a little bald man. Next question.

OK, at the core is an ideology that promotes people with babies. Especially in Silicon Valley, it is associated with a decline in population. People don’t have enough babies to replenish the population and can cause various economic problems.
