The UK government’s secret order requires Apple to be challenged by two civil rights groups, Liberty and Privacy International, which filed a complaint on Thursday, a complaint. They called the order “unacceptable and disproportionate” and warned of “global consequences” as access orders were also believed to have expanded to non-UK users as well.
The couple, with two named individuals – Privacy International Executive Director Gus Hosein and civil liberties advocate Ben Wizner – directed the law firm Leigh Day to challenge Home Secretary
Yvette Cooper decided to provide Apple with what is called technical capability notification (TCN) under the Investigative Powers Act (IPA). The existence of secret commands is only through Last month’s news report.
“International privacy and freedom fear that such TCNs, or future similar TCNs, could be used to undermine end-to-end encryption, which is crucial to protecting privacy and free expression,” they wrote in a press release.
