As the country approaches its solemn anniversary on September 11, Frank Siller, chairman and CEO of the Talls Foundation, joined Abby Hornacek to share the memory and gratitude. This year, the foundation will pay off 21 mortgages for the fallen first responders and families of Venus families to ensure the legacy of these heroes continues to exist.
The Foundation’s mission is deeply personal to Siller, whose sacrifice of his brother, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on 9/11 to answer the Call of Duty. His body has never recovered. Frank Siller shared that the foundation was to commemorate the actions of his brother and the sacrifices of all the heroes who died that day.
The foundation’s commitment extends to those who continue to suffer the consequences of the day. Six of the 21 mortgages are targeted at families of first responders who died from 9/11-related illnesses, which is an incredible reminder that the tragedy of that day continues to take lives. The Foundation’s promise is simple and profound: “If you are the first responder and are protecting us, we will take care of the rest of our family.”
Looking ahead to the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Tunnel to Towner is launching a new initiative, “The Steel of the Whole America” to ensure future generations will never forget. The foundation will ship a piece of steel at World Trade Centers across the country and shipped by a 93-foot mobile museum. Siller explained that the trip will allow people to “make sure they never forget what happened” and understand the price they pay for their freedom.
