Rubio told reporters from the Associated Press and CNN that the first action the U.S. plans to take after a meeting with Russian officials is to “rebuild the functions of our respective missions in Washington and Moscow.”

“To enable us to continue moving along this road, we need to have diplomatic facilities that function and function properly,” Rubio said.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and Trump vowed in 2024 on the campaign that he would work to end the conflict if re-elected.
