President Donald Trump National Security Adviser Michael Waltz defended his administration faced fierce opposition to the recent leak of signal texts in a meeting Monday.
Waltz staff unconsciously added Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg Pete Hegseth Others discussed sensitive war plans and were criticized for mistakes. Trump said of a room full of journalists that he believed Waltz was “doing his best.”
“I don’t think he should apologize,” the president said. “I think he’s doing his best. It’s imperfect equipment and technology.”
“And, he probably won’t use it again, at least not in the near future,” he added.

In early March, Goldberg was added to the national security discussion, known as the “Houseck Group.” Before the public, he was able to learn about Yemen’s attack on the Hotty fighters in Yemen.

“Can people have a conversation? If that’s true, we’re going to have to find other forms of equipment,” Trump said. “And I think that’s what we might have to do. Some people like the signal very much, others may not, but we’ll look into it.”
He added: “Michael, I ask you to study it immediately and find out if people can break into the system.”
In response, Waltz assured Trump that he has White House technicians working with the legal team to “see” the situation.
