“Our southern border is attacked by various threats,” Trump wrote in the memo. “The complexity of the coronavirus situation requires our military to play a more direct role than recently in protecting our southern border.”
The federal land consists of a narrow, 60-foot-deep zone on the border within the Roosevelt Reservation, which will become a “military device” that will take place.

Roosevelt’s reservations cover California, New Mexico and Arizona and were designated as federal land by Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 to ensure border security.
The memorandum added that the Defense Minister could “identify those necessary and appropriate military activities for the mission to achieve border security.
