Trump and Democratic Maine Governor Janet Mills banned women’s sports in February due to Trump’s order. At the National Governors Association meeting, Trump accused Mills of continuing to allow trans women to participate in women’s sports, violating federal orders. After the confrontation, the Trump administration began an investigation into the Maine education department.
The USDA has also frozen certain educational programs in Maine due to the state’s rebellion. Agricultural Secretary Brooke Rollins said that if Maine is consistent with the federal interpretation of Title IX, the funding freeze can be cancelled.
