President Donald Trump He will award Charlie Kirk the Medal of Freedom after his death after being shot on Wednesday on a college campus, said Thursday.
“I will soon be awarded Charlie Kirk, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The day of the ceremony will be announced and I can only assure you one thing. We will have a large crowd. Very, very large.”
Speaking at the Pentagon ceremony, Trump described Kirk as “a giant of his generation, a champion of freedom, and an inspiration for millions of people.” He added that the date of the ceremony would be announced soon, but promised “a big crowd. Very, very large.”
“I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and his courage in the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will continue to exist,” Trump said.

Kirk, 31, co-founded the conservative student group Turning Point in 2012 and established it as one of the most influential youth organizations in political rights. Known for his fiery campus appearances and extensive social media presence, Kirk is a staunch supporter of Trump and a regular critic of liberal institutions.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States. It is granted to individuals who have made “specially meritorious” contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace or cultural and public efforts.
Kirk will join the list of recipients of the president, lawmakers and foreign leaders, remitting them to athletes, entertainers and human rights figures.

On Wednesday after the shooting, Trump called it a “dark day for America.”
“It’s a long time for all Americans and the media to face violence and murder is the fact that demonizes the tragic consequences of people you disagree day after day, year after year,” he said.
“For years, radical leftists compared a brilliant American like Charlie to the Nazis and the worst mass murderers and criminals in the world.”

In the death, Trump said: “Charlie’s voice has become bigger and more grand than ever before.”
