Senate Democrats thwarted the extended competition by Senate Republicans through short-term government funding as Democrats provide a setback for the government’s fast-track deadline.
While the proposal could easily slide into the house in a small drama, it hit a brick wall in the Senate, failing 44-48. There is only one MP, Senator. John FettmanD-Pa. Cross the aisle to support the Republican plan. R-Ky. Sens. RandPaul and R-Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski also voted against the bill.

The CR will open the government until November 21, including tens of millions, to increase security for lawmakers as well as the judiciary and executive branches.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck SchumerDN.Y. also accused Thune of not negotiating with him – Thune pushed back all week and pointed out that his office was less than 25 yards from Schumer’s office.
“We have two weeks. They should sit down and talk to us and we may be able to get a good advice,” Schumer said. “Let’s see. But when they don’t talk to us, there’s no hope for a good advice. It doesn’t make sense.”
He continued: “Again, when Donald Trump said not to negotiate with Democrats because he didn’t know what the Senate was like or he didn’t know how to count because without Democrats they would end up shutting down the administration.”
But the demands Schumer and Democrats laid out on the counter are too far for Republicans.
The bill includes a permanent expansion of Obamacare subsidy for the pandemic-era Covid-19-19 pandemic era, which will expire at the end of the year, an effort to repeal Medicaid cuts in Trump’s “big and beautiful bills” and efforts to eliminate NPR and PBS funding cancellations.

But Republicans believe that the extension that includes tax credits in short-term extensions is not related to the bill, especially a bill that aims to provide time for Congress to provide the government with spending bills. Thune said that avoiding closing will “solve” the credits.
But for the moment, the problem at hand still boils down to the communication between Thune and Schumer.
“I mean, these are leaders of the U.S. Senate.” Thom TillisRN.C. explain. “I hope they step up. If one person doesn’t actually reach out, the other person should at least prove that they are – they try to negotiate in good faith. If they don’t, then they get what they get.”
