The White House is applauding media reports, accusing intelligence officials of having been signaling confidential information using end-to-end encrypted messaging apps and describing the allegations as “error” in a statement to Fox News’ digital numbers.

Since Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic released his Exposé, the issue has sparked about the Trump administration’s use of signals, saying he was accidentally invited by Waltz to participate in sensitive group chats on encrypted messaging apps. The information includes “war plans” to attack Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Media reports from the Wall Street Journal, Politico and The Washington Post claimed that Waltz and his team often use signals and other public messaging platforms to discuss sensitive topics and official government operations.
“It is appropriate to use signals to send unclassified information, and these facts have been reported several times over the past few days,” Hughes said.
“Some people in the NSC, such as the media and many areas of the federal government, use signaling applications,” Hughes added. “All communication reflects a thoughtful dialogue among those committed to effectively implementing the president’s agenda.”

Still, critics of the Trump administration are asking for answers. On Tuesday, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee sent letters to “non-chief agency officials” as part of the original signaling group chat, accidentally including Goldberg.

The letter to Waltz asked him to hand over all communications related to the official government business, which is a signal sent by him or his employees or other “unauthorized messaging and email applications and platforms”.
