Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Texas) died Tuesday night at the age of 70, Fox News learned.
Turner, who was formerly mayor of Houston, Texas, was elected to replace him The late Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee, A person who died in July last year.
Turner served in the Texas House of Representatives for 27 years and was elected mayor of Houston in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries paid tribute to Turner in a statement Wednesday.
