Sydney Sweeney She plays the role of legendary boxer Christy Martin in the new movie “Christy”, sharing some of the secrets behind her dramatic transformation.
After the film’s premiere, the 27-year-old actress received over 30 pounds of playing Martin in a Q&A session after its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), detailing how her preparations include intense physical exercise and egg cakes and milkshakes in the diet.

“A lot of eggs, a lot of them,” Sweeney agreed. “A lot of cream shakes, a lot of milk shakes, a lot of protein shakes.”
“But it’s incredible to be able to fully embody such a strong woman,” she added. “I feel stronger. It’s really encouraging.”
“Christy” tells the story of Martin nicknamed “The Daughter of a Coal Miner,” who rose from the small town of West Virginia to become one of the most well-known female boxers of the 1990s.
Movie It also explores the troubles of Martin with her boxing coach and husband, Jim Martin (Ben Foster). Their marriage involves interdependence, substance abuse, financial scandals, and physical and psychological violence. Sweeney had previously shared her time with Martin, who visited her on the scene and encouraged her in the fight scene.
Sweeney tore up while reflecting while standing next to the stage next to Martin at the Princess Theatre on Friday Former champion.

When Martin spoke during the Q&A session, she praised Sweeney for capturing both sides of her personality.
“Boxer Christie is just a character, very exaggerated and very conceited, but that’s not who I am,” Martin explained. Hollywood Reporter. “I’m actually very shy and reserved.”

“There are these two different parts of my character, and that’s why Sydney Sweeney does this great job,” she continued. “She has to be a completely different person that no one of you expected. She’s not beautiful, sexy Sydney. She’s the tough and solid Christie in this movie.”
After his ex-husband tried his best for a lifetime, Martin became an inspiring speaker and founded the nonprofit Christie champion, which supports survivors of domestic violence.

Martin told the crowd that she hopes her story will inspire others, and the film will give them the confidence to pursue their dreams.
“I made a deal with God from the hospital: If I were to let me live, I would help as many people as possible,” Martin said of her recovery after the attack. “I hope this movie can do that. If the daughter of a coal miner is from a small town of 500 people in southern West Virginia, anyone could do it.”
