“The Raiders family mourned the death of John Vella, the leading player in the dominant Raiders offensive line in the 1970s and the starter of the Oakland Super Bowl XI championship team,” the statement said. “Vella originally joined the Raiders in the second round draft at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1972, and he won the National Honor Consensus in 1971.
