South Carolina The execution of a prisoner who was guilty of the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer has been arranged, which will make him the fifth person to be executed in the state as it resumed a 13-year moratorium in the fall, which will allow him to resume execution in the fall.
Mikal Mahdi, 41, is scheduled to be executed in a prison in Colombia on April 11 at 6 p.m., the state Supreme Court announced Friday.
Mahdi has the option to die with a lethal injection, electric chair or shooting squad. He must make a decision by March 28 or he will be killed by the electric chair.
On March 7, Brad Sigmon became the first prisoner to be fired in the United States when he was killed in South Carolina within 15 years. This method has been performed by this method by three other prisoners, all in Utah.

Three other South Carolina prisoners have been executed since the resumption of executions in September. Freddie Owens died of a fatal injection on September 20, November 1, Richard Moore, and Marion Bowman Jr. on January 31. Sigmon chose the shooting squad for fear of the long-term suffering faced by three other prisoners being killed by a fatal injection.
The court postponed Steven Bixby’s sixth execution, who killed two police officers in December 2003 in the Abiville County land dispute.
One psychologist said Bixby knew what led to the death penalty, but he also believed that the blood found on his clothes on the night of Killing contains the DNA of Jesus Christ.
Mahdi’s attorney David Weiss said his client had a long history of troubled behavior since childhood.
Weiss said that as early as the second grade, Mahathir would have suffered from mental despair and discussed self-harm. He had a criminal record as a teenager and was convicted of violating, entering and attacking police officers in Virginia.
“He has been repeatedly failed by his family and the justice system, which overlooked his identity: a child who is injured in need of support,” Weiss said in a statement. “Micar’s story is one of the stories of trauma, neglect, and a lot of missed opportunities for him to have the safety and compassion that every child should have.”
Arrest records show Mahdi stole a gun and a car in Virginia on July 14, 2004. The next day, he shot and killed a store clerk in North Carolina while the clerk was checking his identity. A few days later, he hijacked someone at a crossroads in Columbia, South Carolina.
On July 18, 2004, after these crimes, Mahdi hid in Orangeburg, South Carolina, a shed by public safety official James Myers. Prosecutors said Mahathir ambushed Meyers when the officer returned from a birthday celebration with his wife, sister and daughter.

Myers, 56, was hit eight to nine times, including two after falling to the ground. One pathologist testified that at least seven of these shots were fatal.
Mahdi then caught Miles’ body on fire and ran away. Myers’ wife found her husband’s body in the shed, and they used her body against the background of the wedding.
On July 21, 2004, Mahdi was Detained in Florida. When an officer involved in the arrest learned what he wanted in South Carolina, he thanked Mahdi for not firing a shot at him. Mahdi told him that the only reason he didn’t is because he could successfully shoot two officers and their K-9 and escape it.
Behind the bar, Mahdi was caught three times by the tool he escaped. One is the Allen wrench, the others are homemade handcuff keys, one of which is found at his trial.
On the death row, Mahathir stabbed a guard and beat another worker with concrete blocks. Three times, prison staff discovered that the metal in his cell could be used as a knife.
During the trial, Mahathir’s lawyers said their client was the second son of a woman who was arranged to marry when she was 16 years old. His family described a chaotic childhood, although no one proved abuse or mental illness.
Mahdi pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced by Judge Clifton Newman, who told Post and Courier at the time that he was not sure he believed in the death penalty, but the case was greater than his beliefs.

“My challenges and commitment throughout my judicial career are to judge justice with compassion and seek to find humanity in every defendant I sentence,” Newman said. “This human sexiness does not seem to exist in Mikal Deen Mahdi.”
South Carolina, once the busiest execution, resumed in September as the state continued part of the drug company’s concerns that they had to disclose that they had sold the drugs to state officials.
