this University of Massachusetts Amherst Five international students enrolled in schools have their visas revoked by U.S. immigration and customs enforcement, said Friday.
“The university learned that throughout the week, as of tonight, five international students have been revoked their visas and terminated their status as a federal government,” UMASS Prime Minister Javier Reyes said in a letter to the university website.
“I’m sorry to send this news so late on Friday; considering that we learned about some of the revocations tonight, I think it’s important to share this disturbing news at the moment.”
Reyes said the university did not inform the student visa changes.
UMass Amherst is the largest in the state’s public university system.

Earlier this week, the president of Minnesota State University in Mancato said five international students at the university had been revoked.
The school’s principal Edward Inch said the school examined the database of international student identities after a Turkish student at the University of Minnesota was detained at a Turkish student at the University of Minneapolis for a drunk driving conviction.
Other colleges across the country, including Arizona, Cornell, North Carolina, the University of Oregon, the University of Texas and the University of Colorado, have also reported that international student visas have been revoked without notice.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last week students will be targeted with other people related to “potential criminal activities.”

In late March, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Alabama, whose visa was revoked in 2023 and was arrested late at night.
His attorney said he was told he could stay in the United States while he was still a student, despite his visa being revoked.

The DHS said the student Alireza Doroudi “posed a major national security issue”.
