A Republican-led Senate bill prevents boys from participating in women’s sports failed to overcome legislators after failing to reach the necessary 60-level voting threshold Monday night.

“The government strongly supports S. 9, the Protection of Women and Girls in the Sports Act 2025,” the White House said in a statement issued in the Tuberville office ahead of Monday’s vote.
“By passing an amendment to Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, the bill would explicitly recognize that it is already federal law, an illegal discrimination by men participating in federally funded sports programs or activities designated as women or girls,” the statement said.
It continues: “The bill also recognizes that the ‘sex’ used in the statutory plan is based solely on reproductive biology and genetics.” “Men participating in the women’s movement not only poses derogatory and dangerous to women and girls, but also erodes the integrity of our national civil rights law. Congress’ affirmative vote on the bill will complement the federal court’s ruling and President Trump’s February 5, 2025 Executive Order, Executive Order, ‘Stay Men from Women’s Movement.
Tuberville’s efforts to increase the bill have been made for years, and Senators first introduced the bill during the administration of President Joe Biden, during which there were no such orders.
Like the executive order, the measure would ban federal funds from entering sports programs that allow biological men to participate in women’s and women’s sports.

“Hard working female athletes should not be hampered in track and field because they are forced to compete with biological men. Democrats vote for Joe Biden’s attempt to attack women and girls on Title IX,” said Bill Cassidy, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (Help). “I will continue to work with President Trump and my Republican colleagues to retain the IX title to ensure that every woman and girl has success.”
The bill and executive order are increasingly concerned about biology for men and boys, who believe trans people participate in and win events and leagues for women and girls.
“President Trump won the landslide on the issue of saving women’s sports,” Tuberville said in a statement to Fox News in January. “70% of Americans agree – men don’t belong to women’s sports or locker rooms. I’ve said many times that I think Title IX is one of the best things that have come to Washington. But over the past few years, it’s destroyed.”
“While I’m glad that the Biden administration finally canceled the proposed rule, Congress must make sure that this rule will never happen again. I welcome my first granddaughter this spring and I won’t stop fighting until her right to fair play is protected. I hope every colleague of mine will join my daughter, niece, niece, granddaughter and vote for this important bill.”
