For anyone who missed the way a smartphone works, Samsung announced two new “rugged” galaxy devices, the Galaxy Xcover 7 Pro and the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro, which feature a removable backplane and a replaceable user’s battery.
The Galaxy Xcover 7 Pro is designed for enterprise customers, but it contains some of the same Galaxy AI Samsung has been pushing its features Flagship smartphoneincluding Google’s search and object eraser. The phone uses the Snapdragon 7S Gen 3 chip, with a brighter screen and comes with a 4,350mAh battery, but the reason for buying it is Samsung making it a more rugged and customizable way than the average phone. These include IP68 waterproof and dustproof, Didi’s MIL-STD-810H certification, programmable buttons, built-in POGO pins as another charging option, and can replace yourself by popping up the back of the phone.
The Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro has a 10.1-inch screen and uses the same Snapdragon chip as the Xcover 7 Pro, but the tablet offers more options when charging. Samsung says if the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro is connected to the dock, it can use the battery inside without the battery, and you can also heat-strike the battery on your tablet without turning it off. You will enjoy many of the same durability benefits as the Xcover 7 Pro, and the IP68 waterproof and dustproof capabilities also extend to the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro’s S-Pen stylus.
None of these devices are suitable for the average person, but they speak well about common sense features like the fact that you can replace your own battery has become a niche. In the process, we become lighter, sleeker flagship phones, but one has to wonder if the Xcover owner is the owner who truly lives a good life.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Xcover 7 Pro will be ordered on May 8, 2025. Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro is scheduled to be released in early June.
