Rick Pitino reveals plans to celebrate St. John’s historic Big East Tournament victory

St. John Thanks to Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino, who beat Creighton on Saturday night to win the school’s first Big East Championship in 25 years, he plans to celebrate in a lot of ways.

After pushing the Little Blue Jays 82-66, Pitino stood out with RJ Luis Jr. and Zuby Ejiofor, and Pitino sat down with Fox Sports to discuss what victory meant to him.

“We just want to be Big East Championship It seems to be the first round, the second round and the third round [of the NCAA Tournament],” said Pinito.

“We did it. The pressure is getting bigger and bigger on us, but we’re making it big.”

Despite falling behind at the end of the first half, St. John’s rally went 14 shots from the field in the second half. After halftime, Luis scored all 29 points in 29 points, while Ejiofor scored 20 points on Saturday to win the Big East title.

“At the beginning of the year, we achieved our goals, but we just wanted to play – get into the game,” Pinito added.

But before St. John learns to know his fate Sunday choice, The legendary coach revealed to Fox that his plan celebrates a historic victory.

He smiled and said, “I want to drink a quart of Jameson.”

Pitino is the first coach in history to compete in the NCAA Championship with six different teams. This victory has been an automatic bid for St. John’s, the first time since 2019.

“The city is a victory. Our university has won a huge victory. It’s the team in New York, and that’s really,” Pitino said. “As a New Yorker myself, I’m very proud of St. John’s reaching this level.”

St. John is expected to finish second on Sunday.
