Video shows Sanchez repeatedly stuffed his hands in his pocket, even though an officer took his hands away from his pocket.

“How much did you drink?” asked Sanchez, another official at the scene. “You talk about alcohol, honestly. You smell like alcohol.”

When an officer asked Sanchez if he wanted to have a live sobriety test, he asked if he could order Uber and refused. An officer told him he would be unable to order Uber and he refused to perform a live sobriety test on site.

Sanchez pleaded not guilty to driving while drunk on the day of his arrest and later pleaded not guilty to civil charges of refusing chemical tests and failing to comply with traffic control devices.

Sanchez’s license was suspended by Cranston District Judge William Noonan on February 19, court records show. However, he obtained a hard license that allowed him to drive from his daily work and the State Capitol to perform legislative duties between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., provided that he installed an ignition interlock exhaler in his vehicle.

In a brief pretrial meeting on February 24, the case moved from the District Court to the State High Court.

Sanchez arrested Call on him to resign. On February 10, he was arrested in the X-Thread after a week of silence.

Instead of apologizing, he said, “I won’t distract my personal behavior from the issues that really matter – the attention of the family, the business and my community.”

“Sometimes, we’re too close to fully see where we are,” he said. “This experience gives me a new clarity on my responsibility – not only in this conference hall, but in the trust my community has in me. I take that trust seriously and will continue to work hard every day.”

Sanchez’s lawyer is former Rhode Island Speaker John Harwood.

In 2023, Sanchez filed RI H5461, a bill Illegal immigration The state has the right to vote.
