‘Real Housewives’ star Teddi Mellencamp given ’50/50′ chance of surviving cancer

Teddi Mellencamp is still hopeful while battling Stage 4 cancer, even though doctors warn her that she has a 50% chance of survival.

“I understand that this is not the best question to ask if you are receiving immunotherapy, because immunotherapy is only about 10 years old,” she told Nightline.

She was initially upset that she heard the success rate of immunotherapy “50/50”.

“This is one of my favorite things to ask: ‘How long have I been? What are my chances?’ They often say 50/50,” she said. Mellencamp remembers telling the doctor: “50/50? I won’t buy a car that only drives 50%. I don’t want this.”

She added: [the doctor’s] Like, “No, it’s just because this is how long the immunotherapy has been around, so this is the time for research to work.” That’s when I try to find positive. ”

Sometimes finding positive is a challenge.

“I really like control, it’s totally out of control. It’s really scary,” Melencamp said.

In February, after the medication became ineffective due to a migraine, Melenkamp began to feel severe pain and rushed to the emergency room with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave.

“Pain has become something I’ve never had before,” she said. “They diagnosed me Multiple brain tumors,but [ER doctor] Say he can’t take them out. They have to let me into the cedar [hospital].

“And I thought, ‘Can’t you let me tonight? I want to go tonight.’ I have six brain tumors and two lung tumors.

After the operation, Mellencamp immediately started radiation and immunotherapy treatments, which caused damage to her body.

“I thought I would feel like I was lifted up on my neck,” she said. “My reaction is always a headache and I found that this is good news because it means immunotherapy or radiation is killing your cancer.”

Mellencamp said on social media the day before receiving radiation and immunotherapy that she felt “so tired and closed down but I know it will get better again.”

“Things that everyone can keep in mind…I kind of think I’ve beat it up and then, a few days later, I found out I still have four tumors. So, there are a lot of different highs and lows, yes, but I’ve learned a lot.”
