Putin in no rush to follow ‘Trump time’ ceasefire proposal

President Trump’s special envoy Steve Vickforf visits Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin Discuss the proposed ceasefire in Ukraine on Thursday. Zelenskyy criticized Putin for being “very manipulative” and accused Putin of being “actually prepared to refuse.” Later last month, Trump slammed Zelenskyy for announcing the peace deal “very far away”, calling it “the worst statement” and said: “The United States will not endure it for longer!”

But Zelenskyy is right – Ukraine peace still has a long way to go. Putin is unlikely to accept President Trump’s current peace plan. This is why.

Trump is known for his relentless work ethics, asking his staff to do things at record speeds or “in the Trump era”, while Peter Navarro, the president’s senior adviser and lead architect of Trump’s tariff doctrine, calls it the same name in his best-selling book.

It is understandable that Trump wants to keep his campaign promises and stop the bloodshed quickly.

But the situation in Russia-Ukraine is very complicated with all due respect for President Trump and his achievements. Russia’s strategic culture is very different from Western culture. Putin is completely different from anyone Trump has dealt with before. Russia’s thinking and its relationship with time are expressed in one sentence: “The slower you walk, the slower you will be.”

First, as Trump correctly said in a press conference, Putin “has all the cards.” and Vladmir Putin Don’t worry. He wanted to end the war, but only with his terms, if accepted by the United States, it would humiliate Washington.

On March 6, Putin publicly ruled to make any concessions to Ukraine. “We don’t need anything that belongs to others, but we won’t give up on our things,” he said in a speech on Russian state television.

Putin thinks he can shoot. Despite the unreasonable losses of Russia (and Ukrainians), Russia was able to delay the war for years. Indeed, Putin has been working on his strategy since he became a quarter of a century. Seven years before the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he made a transition from his war-time foothold and Russia that criticized Russia. To eliminate the impact of future U.S. sanctions, Putin overturned Russia’s foreign exchange reserves, increased the sovereign wealth fund to the highest level in history, and launched an import implementation plan to stimulate indigenous production and minimize Russia’s dependence on imports. Moscow also stood a fleet of shadow tankers to continue the secret exit.

Secondly, it is not surprising that Ushakov rejected Trump’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire. Putin pointed out many times that a temporary rest in battle is impossible He does not want to make a strategic pause to Ukraine, Europe or the United States. In June, Putin said in a speech to the Foreign Ministry that the temporary peace “does not work for Moscow, as the opponent will use the freeze of conflict to supplement Ukraine’s combat losses and armed deficits.”
