He said breaking Gretzky’s record “has become not only a personal success but a real celebration for fans in Russia and abroad.”

Ovechkin scored 895 in the second stage against the New York Islanders. He switched his goals in a power game.
“It may take me a few more days or weeks to realize that it means being No. 1,” Ovickin said after the game. “I’m very proud of myself. I’m very proud of my family, for all my teammates who helped me reach milestones and all my coaches. It’s so big. It’s incredible. It’s an incredible moment and I’m so happy.”
He scores Islander Goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin. This is the 183rd different goalkeeper he has won in the record game.
