The co-founder of a leading progress group says Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer He faced a daunting challenge in winning the trust of Democrats after a Republican-made federal government funding bill avoided a government shutdown last week.
Schumer’s move is a longtime New York congressman, top Senate Democrats, who have angered many not only on the left, but across the party, hoping that Democratic leaders will take a tougher stance in resisting the president Donald Trump’s Agenda.
“Can he win the trust of those who do not trust democratic leaders?” asked Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Movement Commission (PCCC), a major grassroots organization that promotes economic populism and democracy through election and issuance advocacy efforts.

Green answered his own question in a digital interview with Fox News, saying: “The answer is yes, but it’s hard.”
Schumer initially sent a signal to last week Senate Democrats Will oppose the Republican party’s party financing bill. But a day later, he said he would reluctantly support the measure and help Republicans deliver the votes Democrats need to boost the bill’s passage through the Senate.

Schumer said in an interview with ABC News “The View” on Tuesday that he “knows it’s a tough choice”, but added: “I feel I have to do it.” He argued that the shutdown of some administrations would allow Trump to cause “destruction like we’ve never seen it.”

Despite his own party’s backlash, Schumer said in an interview with CBS Morning that he remains “the best leader in the Senate.”
“We have a lot of good people,” Schumer said. “But I’m the best person to win a seat in the Senate.”
But a few hours later, Rep. Glenn Ivey, who represented a solid blue area of Maryland, became the first Democrat in Congress to call for Schumer’s resignation.
In a comment Tuesday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate, criticized Schumer.
Green said the group believes that many of the PCCC membership numbers are about 1 million and are satisfied with Schumer.

According to PCCC, by Tuesday afternoon, there were nearly 22,000 responses, and 84% said “no.”
Democratic favorable ratings drop to record low
Green pointed to the NBC News and CNN’s national polls released last weekend, which showed that Democrats had favorably recorded the trough, stressing that “there is not much confidence in those who call themselves Democratic leaders. So, we need more offense.”
Inseparable is another major democratic organization group that has long been the leader of the Trump Resistance Movement, calling on Schumer to resign from his leader’s resignation on Saturday.
Although the PCCC hasn’t gone that far, Green accused: “Those who call themselves Democratic leaders cannot come out from behind the curtains and guarantee a strategy, especially when that strategy is in trouble. They just have no credibility.”
Green thinks: “I think this is one of the things that Chuck Schumer really makes a mistake, he might admit he misunderstood, it’s a lot of senators and a lot of groups, he thinks the allies were caught in surprise and felt some sort of whiplash.”

The PCCC is one of three groups organizing protests this week on Schumer’s planned book tour. The incidents were suddenly postponed Monday morning due to “security issues.”
When asked about the group’s efforts, Green said: “This is a time to spark public anger rather than hide.”
