Eisgruber sat down with “Daily” podcast host Rachel Abrams on Wednesday to discuss freezes and anti-Semitism research funding on university campuses.

“We started a huge threat to funding flow early in the new presidential administration,” Esgruber told Abrams.
“And then a few weeks ago, something happened in Colombia, introducing new, I think it was a very dangerous factor, that the government came in, without any proper procedures or any obvious investigation, and said… ‘We are going to cancel a whole bunch of grants from you … and we are not going to restore them unless you do something like admission reform.”

Eisgruber discusses the importance of “academic freedom” and then Abrams asks about the effectiveness of government concerns Anti-Semitism on university campuses.
Eisgruber acknowledged that “there were some serious problems with anti-Semitism on that campus” and said opposing anti-Semitism was “a fundamental responsibility to any university president and any university,” but he accused the government of neglecting due process.
“They should allow the university to respond and provide a side of the story,” he said. “Then, if they find a breach, appropriate remedies that are tailored to the breach and the law, then they should be in place.”

They discussed it because of the rumor that the Trump administration complies with legal arrangements or agrees to the statute that ordered Columbia University to comply with Trump’s anti-Semitism enforcement directives.
Under previous leadership President Joe BidenAccording to the Wall Street Journal, several universities, including Brown and Rutgers, signed similar anti-Semitism decrees after the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel.
However, when Abrams asked if Esgruber would be in trouble, whether Trump said he would cut funds unless a particular department was placed under academic takeover rule, he said he would not make concessions.
“We won’t do that,” he said. “We think it’s illegal and we’ll debate it in court. … I really think we all need to talk now.”

After the news broke, the Trump administration cut $4 million in funding related to climate research, and the episode was released. Princeton University.
Princeton received $455 million in federal funding in fiscal 2024, including funding from the Department of Energy National Laboratory, which operates for the government.

“It’s important to me to use my own voice, which is why answering many of your questions, and I said, ‘Hey, I can tell you what happened in Princeton, but I don’t think it’s about Princeton. It’s about what’s going on in America,” Esgruber said. “I think it’s going to be stronger if more fellow countrymen speak out.
“Universities in America [are] Under threat. ”
Esgruber said policy changes were “a crisis for our country.”
Throughout the podcast, he remains firm that universities should not reflect the country’s political ideology.
