Dr. Sergio Alfieri, director of medical director of Gemelli Hospital, announced Saturday that Pope Francis is expected to be discharged on Sunday.
Alfieri said at a press conference that the Holy Father experienced “two very critical events” during his hospitalization, when his life was at risk, but has since shown a “slow and gradual” improvement due to “pharmacological treatment, high flow administration and auxiliary mechanical ventilation” management. Alfiri said the pope was never intubated.
