A man allegedly fatally shot a woman outside a Carlsbad apartment building, stole her SUV late Friday and shot a gunfight with police in front of an In-N-Out Burger in Orange County during a shooting.

A video briefly shows a man’s short hair, dark hair and a red shirt extending from the stolen vehicle in the middle of the street to the restaurant, his hand clearly pointing to the officer.
Orange County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Sgt. Gerard McCann said he could not comment on how many officers or officials and suspects fired in the shooting. The department shared Photos of semi-automatic pistol Authorities say the suspect’s grip and connected flashlight are not yet confirmed.
The situation began Friday at 9:53 p.m. in Carlsbad, when police responded to gunfire in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 2300 block of Rising Glen Way. When the officers arrived, they found a woman with a gun wound. Her death was announced by nursing staff at the scene Carlsbad Police.
Police said the woman’s maroon Kia Sorrento was stolen and the department sent license plate numbers to surrounding jurisdictions in hopes of finding the suspect and the vehicle.
According to a press release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Laguna Beach Police Department “received notices from vehicles on El Toro Road and Laguna Canyon Road entering a license plate reader for their city.”
About 37 minutes later, officers from Newport Beach discovered stolen vehicles near Newport Coast Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. Authorities said the suspect did not stop when the police tried to pull the car over, and during the subsequent pursuit, the Irvine Police Department K-9 department joined the chase.
According to the sheriff’s press release, the hunt continued to the southbound Highway 5, and the suspect exited on El Toro Road, drove through a commercial complex and headed north along El Toro Road.
Police said the suspect stopped the car in the middle of El Toro Road, south of Avenida de la Carlota, got out and began to fire at the police car.
McCann said the suspect was taken to Providence Mission Hospital in Vio Mission, where he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the woman killed in Carlsbad has not been released yet. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the pursuit and shooting.
