Miami won by walking in three Pittsburgh losses. Sunday’s game gave Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine equalizing the game in the seventh inning single home run while Derek Hill scored in the field.
The Pirates were the first team to lose their first three games through walking since 1924. Go to MLB.comciting Elias Sports Bureau. The last team was the Pirates in 1924, who won 90 games that season and then won the World Series in 1925.
“It’s challenging,” said Pirates manager Derek Shelton. “We have something to do.”
The Marlins “spoiled Paul Skenes’ opening day, Nick Forbes doubled to start the ninth inning. Xavier Edwards intentionally walked and stole the second base. Kyle Stowers then plated with pincher Javier Sanoja, Miami earned his first win of the season.

Dane Myers drove at Otto Lopez at the bottom of the 12th inning on Saturday. Miles also made a home run, throwing out Tommy Pham, who tried to score for the Pirates at the top of the 12th.
Pirate rescuer David Bednar is considered two of the losses.
“Lock it in and do the little things right,” Pirates veteran Andrew McCutchen told reporters in the locker room. “I’ll keep knocking on the door because if you don’t, that’s the case, and that can happen.
“It’s the result when you don’t do small things. Execute execution when you need to, do what you need to do when hitting, and we’ll be fine. But when you don’t do that, you end up at 1-3.”
Pirates started three games Tampa Bay Light on Monday.

Miami is the first team to win the first three games since 2003. At the beginning of that season, the Rays were 3-5, ending the game with a 63-99 record under Lou Piniella.
