Schumer’s office and Buttigieg’s representatives did not immediately provide comments to Fox News Digital.

Buttigieg, 43, has served as mayor before South Bend, Indianabefore the presidential bid was launched in 2020. Fans affectionately call him “Mayor Pete”, who has been one of its young stars among the Democratic Party.

“Pete is exploring all options for how he can help and continue to serve,” a source familiar with Buttigieg’s mind told Fox News Digital in January after Peters revealed he would not seek reelection on a key battlefield in Michigan.

Peters announced his retirement to Detroit News and told the media: “I always thought I would have a while I would throw it away and pass the next generation’s in-rope. I’ve never seen Congress’ service, either, because you’ve been doing it all your life.”

He added: “That goes back to 2008, when I won a seat for the first time. I think it’s a few tenures I’m going to serve and then I’ll go back to my private life.”
