A senior U.S. Department of Defense official said Tuesday that about one-third of employees (Defense) will leave voluntarily through a plan to defer resignation.
“There are more than 21,000 of the applications for more than 20,000 employees who volunteered to participate in the deferred resignation program. So, these applications will actually be realized over time,” the defense official said in a media briefing. “We are placing those employees approved in administrative leave.”
The Ministry of Defense aligns its civilian workforce with national security priorities. As part of this effort, the Department of Defense is strategically reducing its civilian workforce by 5-8% to point resources and human resources to mission-critical functions.

“We will certainly consider the case again when we plan to lower our workforce,” US Defense Officials, He served in the military for more than 10 years before working in the civilian sector.

Along with the deferred resignation program, the department is removing certain probation employees and establishing a recruitment freeze. Each initiative, by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Focus on the criticality of the workforce mission to promote lethal, prepared and combat.
“So the department is the steward of the money for American taxpayers. We need to be good stewards, take responsibility for that money and make sure we complete the task and focus on the task correctly,” the official said.
