PBS CEO Paula Kerger alerts that Congress withdraws federal funds from public broadcasts will have negative impacts White House Plans to cut taxpayer funds from PBS and NPR.

“Nothing is more important than PBS, and we work just because of the bipartisan support we have been receiving from Congress. This public-private partnership allows us to help millions of children succeed in school and life, and support the highest quality of rich and inspiring programs,” she continued. “Revoking these funds will undermine the PBS membership site, and the important role they play in the community, especially smaller and rural sites, who rely on federal funds to cover a larger portion of their budget. Without PBS membership site, Americans will lose unique local programming and emergency services in times of crisis.”

Kerger added: “We are proud to highlight the real issues, individuals and locations that business media will ignore. We look forward to showing Congress what we value to Congress, just like the past 50 years, can maintain our commitment to the American people to keep our organization, serving, strong and effective.”
Kerger’s statement is in response President Donald TrumpRuss, the budget director of Russ, drafted a memorandum asking Republican lawmakers to cut $1.1 billion, allocated to the company’s Public Broadcasting Corporation (CPB), and $8.3 billion to the U.S. Agency for International Development.
“From the first day, the Trump administration will pass executive actions, threshold reviews, and other efforts by departments and agencies will be wasted, fraud and abused. Congress has expressed strong interest in supporting these efforts and demanded that the administration withdraw the revocation send to the hill for quick approval,” VOUGHT wrote in Memo.
The memo continued, “OMB recommended the Administration respond with two proposals to cut $9.3 billion. The first includes a rescission of $8.3 billion in poor foreign aid spending (out of $22 billion) that does not expire in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. The second is a separate rescission of all Federal foundation for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — which funds the politically biased public radio and public television system.”

Last month, PBS’s Kerger and NPR CEO Katherine Maher testified before the Doge subcommittee and baked the alleged biased content as Republicans demanded the withdrawal of their federal funds.
PBS website A portion of the state received funding from the CPB, which received approximately $500 million in approval each year and said “the CPB is allocated primarily to public television and radio stations, some of which are allocated to NPR and PBS to support national programs.”

PBS also receives “charitable gifts and grants” to fund exports through the PBS Foundation, 501(c)(3) nonprofits and 509(a)(3) support organizations.

NPR’s own website continues to acknowledge that “station programming costs form a large part of NPR’s largest source of revenue. Loss of federal funds will undermine the station’s ability to pay NPR to program, thus weakening the agency.”
NPR’s financial page also insists that eliminating federal funding will reduce journalism.
So, while NPR publicly downplays its government funding, smaller government-funded radio stations provide cash to NPR. All of this happens while NPR claims that “federal funding is crucial”, while also delaying the idea of government funding.
