Parents arrested after 9-month-old tests positive for cocaine in Tulare County

Police said a 9-month-old parent tested positive for cocaine at a hospital in Tullery County after being arrested Tuesday.

The Tarare County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the hospital shortly before 5 a.m., which reported that a child had tested positive for cocaine. The couple initially took the baby to the emergency room for high fever. But after several tests, hospital staff determined that the baby tested positive for the anesthetic, authorities said in a press release.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the Lindsay couple’s home, where they found narcotics and two other children, whose age was not provided by the sheriff’s office. It is not clear how babies come into contact with cocaine.

Ashley Flores, 29, and Casey Willibanks, 32, were arrested on suspicion of endangering children and possessing illegal narcotics, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the child welfare service evacuates the child from home.
