Operative Games unveils AI-driven interactive storytelling platform


Surgery Gameis an AI-based interactive storytelling company that emerged today from Stealth, supported by investors 1am Gaming, Samsung Next and Longjourney.vc.

The company is creating immersive games and experiences where players can talk to truly thoughtful, lifelike AI characters who create lasting emotional connections while solving problems and guiding complex stories together.

Founded by Jon Snoddy, former head of research and development at Walt Disney, and Jon Kraft, founding CEO of Pandora Media, along with gaming industry veteran Pegi Bryant, surgical gaming combines decades of innovation in the entertainment industry with brand new artificial intelligence to create unique interactive experiences.

“So we are a collection of artists, writers, engineers, scientists. TV, the same emotional connection to the characters.”

The company’s secret sauce is its proprietary story Engine, which enables game developers to fill characters with emotional emotions with an intrinsic narrative and understand how players can be brought through that narrative while allowing full player agents.

Players can call the phone number of the game character through a standard phone call and chat with them, text or video. StoryEngine is completely server-based and does not require downloading. This allows for a lifelike character experience in interactive stories and games that utilize the operator’s IP and the partner’s IP.

“We’re not only making games, but in a sense building relationships, in a sense — real memories and shared experiences,” said Jon Snoddy, CEO of Battle Games. “Our technology enables people to understand the context and form a real emotional bond with the players.”

The Los Angeles-based surgical game has a first glimpse into its first story experience, the surgical experience, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. In this experience, the player calls a character named “enya” “Enya” who draws them into her world at the request of help.

What looks like a simple question at first will eventually turn into a complex spy thriller in which players play key roles. Enya reacts to the player’s behavior and even shows real human emotions – e.g.

The initial projects under development cover a variety of genres and collaborated with renowned Hollywood writers and key players in traditional and interactive entertainment. These experiences demonstrate the platform’s ability to convey emotionally resonant stories that can adapt to each player’s choices and personality, creating unique personal narratives that can be displayed indefinitely.

“We’ve crossed a line here,” Snoddy added. “As emerging abilities bring truly believable characters into life and hang out with them in a story-driven world.”

Snoddy has served as head of research and development at Disney for 15 years. He spent a lot of time thinking about telling stories with emerging technologies.

“We’ve been researching to enable us to do something you’re in the story,” Snoddy said. “How you give the people a proxy, but there’s something climaxing that leads to climaxing, and then a satisfying resolution.”

When the Large Language Model (LLM) began working with Generative AI, the company saw the final work in its platform. They officially started their work in 2022 and set out today.

Along the way, they met with writers, game developers, technicians and investors to shape the company the right way. The team has 20 people and has developed a so-called Story Engine, a proprietary platform.

StoryEngine will drive games like surgical staff.

“Story Engine is really the one we have with the highest Hollywood screenwriters, people with their own series, and a long history of painting, they will like people like us, they will like that.”

He added: “We are artists, so these writers create these amazing characters and create these amazing scenes, and then we have to take those linear stories, these characters, their history and their needs, desires and hopes and fears and turn them into instructions from AI to create conversations and create these characters so you can interact with them.

As a production tool, it prompts, creates stories, and then AI is the story you want to tell at runtime.

“It can monitor the emotions of players, their emotional levels, how the story develops, and we need to get to the next step, to the Millerston of the story we need to hit and gently move the story along this storyline,” Snowdy said.

The game adapts to the player’s actions, whether they are active or more passive, and conducts stories as needed.

The operator is the first story on the platform. All characters live in the world. They are ordinary people and they may just contact you via their phone.

There is no software to download. No customer can install it. Snoddy said you just pick up your phone, dial the phone number, call them and they will talk to you.

“You’re having a conversation with them, like you and I might text. “It’s all living on the server, so you can live your life.”

The way the story works is that you encounter these characters and attract their lives. You become friends with them.

The operator will have a trusted role.

“You know he’s real, but you’re suffering from his success, it’s amazing,” Snoddy said. “There’s a wide range of interests.”

When you are involved in the story, it starts to be friends with people. But then you find something bad is happening and as the character gets stuck, she is kidnapped. Then you have to find her before something terrible happens to her.

Another character ends up in legal trouble and he has to run. He contacts you via a burner phone and you need to follow a task to keep the story moving forward. He can help you with things like analyzing photos and you have to decode the encrypted message. It’s a detective experience, and sometimes you interrogate people.

“Having the information you need, they don’t want to give it to you, you have to find a way to break through,” Snoddy said. “There is also a ticking clock that someone is in real trouble and you need to get that information right now before something bad happens to her.”

All of this comes from LLM, who has fed backstory, history and characters. It must understand the world and then assemble the personal story of entertaining the player.

When asked about more people, we have a second, more traditional game in making games, and in design and production we can streamline the process in design.

“Looking forward, our characters are always full of vitality, and this is what we as humans, we are always thinking about where we are going in the future, and likewise, our characters live in the “reality” we create. “For us, it’s the balance between what the player brings to the table and what the writer brings to.

He added: “One of the powers in our company is that everything we do is for that thing, so we will do two things.

Snoddy estimates it may take a month to complete a plot, and more is done throughout the series. Snowdy said some collaborations with the gaming company are already underway.

For the first game, the surgical game will use its own intellectual property as it provides them with the freedom to invent. But in the future, it can do this with IPs from other companies that fans already like.
