One dead after fire breaks out at high-rise apartment complex in downtown L.A.

Authorities said a person died after a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in downtown Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire was reportedly in the Rosslyn Lofts (formerly the Rosslyn Hotel) on West Fifth Street at 2 a.m.

According to the LAFD, more than 100 firefighters responded to the fire on the seventh floor. After the fire was put out, a person was found dead in one of the units.

“The fire was very challenging because it was on the seventh floor… When we caught fire, there was no access to the elevator. We had to track all the equipment on all seven floors,” LAFD spokesman David Ortiz Tell ABC7.

According to LAFD, there are no other deaths or injuries. The person’s identity and other details are also not immediately available.
