New York State lawmakers are proposing a ban on the sale of what he calls “highly addictive” flavored nicotine sachets, even after the FDA emerged, as data suggests it can help smokers throw away cigarettes, potentially leading to cancer.
Democratic state Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal said he opposed replacing cigarettes containing tobacco with tobacco, noting that he wanted to keep the flavoured pouches away from young children.
“This product is distinguishable from other smokeless tobacco products because they do not contain tobacco leaves, rather than nicotine containing tobacco or synthetic nicotine,” Hoylman-Sigal said in the bill memo. New York Post.

“Our bill targets the flavoring products that young people are most likely to use,” he told the New York Post. “Based on our bill, we are working to stop young people from obsessing with the preferred Zyn products.”
However, federal data suggest that less than 2% of high school and middle school students in the country use nicotine pouches. The FDA has also imposed restrictions to prevent companies from selling nicotine bags to young people.
Tobacco companies are now turning to alternative cigarettes amid a drop in smoking rates.
