Norfolk competes on Saturday’s showdown against Maryland Women’s NCAA Championship Being a considerable loser. However, the Spartans pushed the Terrapins into the fourth quarter and then lost 82-69.
The first round started with a surprising start with Norfolk State scoring the first seven points. The historic black college in Virginia also entered the locker room with a 32-30 lead.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the loser’s Spartans fell just four points behind.

“The group won 30 games this year, and last year’s 27 games were 26 games the previous year, and we’re still going into these things and we have to get respect from three people on the floor,” said the Norfolk State coach. “I won’t complain about the host. It’s not what I’m going to do. But when you all see these Spartan heads in the gym, I think we deserve more respect than we get.”

Maryland does have a strong third quarter with all 12 free throws.
“I’m not saying we didn’t foul because that’s a big moment. We might be fouling. I have to watch a movie,” he said. “But you can’t send the team to the free throw line, especially a good shooter like them.”

During the game, Norfolk had 21 fouls against Maryland, while Terps had 23 out of 25. This is an important factor, although Vickers does suggest that his team should be subject to some responsibility.

“I’m not saying the host lost this game,” he said. “We fouled. We fouled. We fouled. We fouled. We fouled. We fouled the jump shooting game, and then we fouled the jump shooter for more.”

Vickers also praised defender Diamond Johnson WNBA Draft in stock.
“I watched her start from seventh in the first round, and when she got me, she fell, fell, fell, fell, fell, fell, fell, I don’t know why,” Vicks said. “She needed to be on the list of finalists for every mid-ranked official, every Dawn Starley Award winner finalists, every Nancy Lieberman finalists. She was very special.”
Vickers spent the last nine seasons in Norfolk State, and was asked about his coaching future after all his success at school. He did not provide much insight on this.
“We all have ideas and goals,” he said. “I don’t know. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
