The NFL issued a statement on Friday to pay tribute to recent Charlie Kirk Prior to its recent game, he said the team will make its own decisions to decide whether to follow this Sunday.

The statement further addresses the context of the tribute, comparing it to other moments of silence following the tragedy.
“There are also some moments after school shootings or attacks on worship houses, such as the Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018, after the Hamas attack on Israel and major international events such as weather-related events such as major hurricanes and fires,” the statement continued.
“This is to honor those in the NFL family from tribute to the nearest players or personnel, or players like Damar Hamlin in 2023. Week.”
The league mentions the general changes to the field and pre-match agreements after George Floyd’s death in 2020, and the moments of silence following other tragedies in the past calendar year.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination timeline
The statement continued: “The George Floyd murder since 2020 and the summer of 2020 events include last Thursday’s Philadelphia kickoff game.
“This summer before the Hall of Fame game in Canton, the league honored the victims and those impacted by the attack at 345 Park Avenue. During Week 18 games last season, the NFL honored the victims of the Bourbon Street terrorist attack. Also, that season the NFL held a moment to recognize those lost in the deadly crashes near Washington, DC and Philadelphia and also prior to the Vikings-Rams Wild Card game that Was moved from LA to Arizona due to wildfire.”
At least one NFL team has made it a point to fire Kirk after being assassinated to post an insensitive employee firing.
Carolina Panthers fired Charlie Rock, a member of the team communications department, after a social media post related to Rock, which seems to indicate that he questioned why people felt sad about Kirk being shot.
“The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent the views of the Carolina Black Panthers,” the team said in a statement posted on social media. “We do not tolerate any kind of violence. We take this matter very seriously and address it with individuals as a result.”

The New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs remain silent elsewhere in the U.S. sport, ahead of the recent game, in honor of Kirk after being assassinated Wednesday. Meanwhile, Major League Baseball (MLB) directed all teams to put all American flags in halftime at least throughout the weekend in honor of Kirk.
A Major League Baseball spokesman told Fox News Numbers, “MLB requires all clubs to follow the direction declared by the White House president and fly in the first half of their court.”
The NHL, NBA and WNBA have no official statements about Kirk’s assassination. Fox News Digital has been contacted with all three leagues to ask if they will, but has not received a response.
