NFL defensive winger John Cominsky, who played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions, announced he retired from the league to just 29.

“After working in the NFL for 6 years, I’m officially going to retire in medicine,” he wrote in a statement posted on Instagram. “I’m proud of my career, but have accumulated a series of injuries that have made me eager to continue playing.
“Thanks to the Atlanta Falcons for believing me and drafting the prospect of Radar Dii. Thanks to the Detroit Lions for grabbing my immunity and giving me a second contract that allows me to show me what I can do NFL starter.
Cominsky added that he learned a lot from playing football and thanked the opportunity to share the stadium with the players he admired and shake hands with the Hall of Fame.

“The most important thing is that my marriage has been strengthened and I have two beautiful kids,” he added. “The perfect period of everyone’s career has come and brought me to the finish line. I kept my family away and so I found peace in this difficult decision.
“Time goes forward.”
The Falcons chose Cominsky in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft at Charleston University in West Virginia.
He played 27 games for the Falcons and then played 30 games with the Lions in 2022 and 2023. He suffered a breakdown from the MCL in the summer ahead of the 2024 season and missed the entire season.
