New Jersey homeschool families fight back as state tries to mandate DEI teachings in their homes

A new bill in New Jersey could require parents who go to school to teach their children about controversial topics, such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

The proposal is still under review and will force parents to submit courses according to national learning standards. These include topics such as gender identity, sexual orientation, DEI and climate research.

This will also increase homeschool negligence, requiring families to submit a student work portfolio annually to be evaluated by a teacher or licensed psychologist.

Some parents say they won’t comply even if the bill passes.

“Our family will not teach anything directly against the Word of God,” said Michele Latour, a homeschool parent in New Jersey.

“And we are very determined about it.”

New Jersey It is one of more than a dozen states with loose home school restrictions. Opponents of the bill believe it can be seen as an excessive violation of the government or invasion of family privacy.

“In our state, homeschooling is very diverse,” homeschooling parent Amanda Roberts told Fox News, explaining that there are some communities in the homeschool community that benefit the bill.

“There are some Democrats at home, there are Republicans at home, there are independents at home, and not everyone is against that.”
