New images show armed ex-con hunted for torturing, killing elderly couple after ruse to enter home: police

New York City Police urged residents to be alert to a man suspected of torturing an elderly queen couple for hours, then killing them and catching fire, all under the guise of needing to come in to charge their phones.

The New York Police Department has released new photos of Jamel McGriff, 42, with decades of rap sheets, police warned he was believed to be Armed and dangerous.

The victims were identified as Frank and Maureen Alton of 76 and 77.

The couple found that they were tied up and burned to death at their home near the famous track when police hunted suspects

Police say Surveillance video showed McGriff approaching the house around 10 a.m. and asked the residents if they could go in and recharge his phone, the homeowner refused.

McGriff heads to his home in Oltons, where Frank initially lets him into the backyard before seeing two people entering the house.

The surveillance footage captured McGriff leaving his home at about 3pm after about five hours, carrying two bags and walking eastward on Drive 87. Soon after, the victim’s son, active-duty FDNY EMT, received a security alert saying his parents’ house was on fire and called 911.

“Once the flames were under control, two victims were found dead at home – Frank Olton, 76, who was one of the victims seen in the videos of interacting with the suspect outside, Mr. Alton’s wife, Maureen Olton, 77,” said New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. “Mr. Alton was found tied to the basement with a pole with multiple stab wounds; Mrs. Alton was severely burned down on the first floor.”

Tisch said McGriff’s “methods of crime” include robbery, and the suspect walked his residence into the victim’s residence before committing the crime.

“No one you don’t know or someone you don’t want to get into your home,” Tisch added.

McGriff has a long criminal history that includes decades, including 16 years in prison, a sentence that was convicted on parole due to a 2006 robbery conviction, Fox 5 Report. Police said he was also wanted for two recent robberies – one at a Harlem Games home in July and another at a Verizon store in Manhattan, where he was reportedly being fucked by a store clerk who noticed he was carrying a fake gun.

McGriff also failed to register as a sex offender last year Violation of parole Police said.

Police said McGriff had found two cell phones in the Bronx for the last time Tuesday. Surveillance videos of black hats, black jackets, blue jeans and black sneakers are also available on the Queens sidewalk, along with a backpack and paper bag.
