Car rental driver Now turning to AI to protect yourself from surprise damage costs. Major companies such as Hertz and Hertz have begun using automatic inspection tools to detect scratches and dents. Despite the promise of efficiency, these scanners have sparked opposition from renters who say they are subject to unfair expenses for minor flaws.
To level the playing field, new consumer-centric applications are stepping in. The recently launched Proofr enables renters to generate safe, time-stamped photos of the front and rear of the vehicle. This application uses AI To detect even subtle changes, the images are then encrypted and stored, so they cannot be changed.

AI-powered autonomous driving software is destroying the freight industry

AI-powered damage detection applications such as Piver can change the way car rental companies report vehicle damage. (prove)
How AI-driven damage detection applications work
Founded by 21-year-old college student Eric Kuttner proveThe app helps drivers create tamper-proof evidence when renting a car. PiveR can determine all scans through geotagging and timestamps, while its AI automatically flags potential damage or changes. It then organizes everything into smart, exportable reports, providing a powerful leverage for renters to deal with unfair claims.
Prove that Reachr does not juggle dozens of photos in camera rolls, but simplifies the process. With just eight quick scans, you’ll get detailed before and after reports in one minute. You can also generate a polished PDF report immediately, which helps the rental agency, landlord or insurance claims. Although cars are the main focus, people also use Proofr for Airbnbs, eBay listings, moving into apartments, and even recording valuables. About 85% rely on it to rent a car, while 15% use it to protect themselves in the holiday home.
By combining security evidence with AI-driven detection, Prove yourself as a must-have travel hacker. It is not only convenient, it can save travelers real money by preventing hidden expenses and a competitive environment for large agencies.
The app is free to download, while the full feature requires a professional subscription: $2.89 per week, $9.90 per month or $89.90 per year. Pricing is standardized in the United States, and Apple automatically adjusts it to local currencies, taxes and exchange rates in other countries.
Competition in AI damage space
Prove not the only player. Ravin AI initially partnered with Avis and Hertz, but focused on insurers and dealers. Still, the company now offers free demos on its website, allowing drivers to scan the vehicle and perform damage before and after rent.
Laven’s system has been trained on 2 billion images in a decade. But, like Proofr, it’s not perfect. Testers noted that the paint chip and false positives were missed from the reflection. Both companies acknowledge that lighting, angle and photo quality remain challenges.

Why rental companies are under fire
The frustration is because rental agencies have launched AI inspection systems from companies such as Uveye and Provstation. For example, Sixt has installed Proovstation’s AI-powered scanners at several airport locations in the United States, including Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami and Maui, and has made more avenues in Orlando, Washington and Nashville. These scanners automatically capture the vehicle at the beginning and end of each rent. The system then compares the image to potential damage to the logo, which is later reviewed by the employee before any claim is issued.
Critics believe that these automation tools can turn each small scratch into a source of profit. Some even point to Proovstation’s own marketing, which describes routine inspections as “a gold mine for unexplored opportunities.” Industry experts stress that companies should only file claims for huge damage, rather than collecting hundreds of people for minor wear and tear.
