Miss America contestant, an Army National Guard sergeant, wants to unite a divided nation

Miss America The hopeful Sophia Parker wants everyone to have a “table seat” – regardless of their political affiliation.

Miss Vermont, 27, will compete in the Miss America pageant on Sunday. Her mission, she said, is to remind Americans that service and solidarity are more important than division.

“Unfortunately, we lived in a great split period, and even throughout my life, I saw that,” Parker, a combat physician and nurse at the University of Vermont Medical Center, told Fox News Digital Digital.

“There is a lot of division between the left and the right,” she shared. “But one thing I think is that people who have different opinions on both sides and everyone in the middle are able to get together and make us need to respect each other. We need to listen to each other.”

“As Sophia, of course, I have my own personal opinion on things. But as Miss Vermont, I’m not here to have a strong political opinion. Meeting with other competitors from all over the country and hearing their stories gave Parker a deeper appreciation for his country.

“I’m so grateful for being an American every day,” she said. “I wake up every day with freedom and privileges that no other country in the world doesn’t have. One thing I’m so grateful for is that as a woman, I’m able to be everything I want to be. It’s something I love in the National Guard in Vermont, I can fall in love with like I do-I can be the person I like to be like a person…I can sit here like me…I can sit like me so much.

“…We can be passionate about any number of things as women and people,” Parker said. “I believe as Americans you can be anything you want to be. I stand here, like Miss Vermont, like nurses, soldiers, pageants, and girls, and I am very grateful to those people.” [roles]. ”

Between Miss America and the Army National Guard, Parker received a debt-free degree in Castleton University last May.

One of the key reasons Parker hopes to stand out this weekend is wildlife healing. Green Mountain native and her mother co-founded Otter Creek Wildlife Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to rescue and repair injured and orphaned birds and mammals in Vermont.

Parker said she had vivid memories of taking home wildlife, caring for them, and releasing them back to natural habitat when she was healthy. She is currently involved in some local organizations aiming to develop better wildlife policies.

“Currently, Vermont allows trapping and hunting with something like a hound,” she said. “We are working to make these things illegal or at least regulated.”

“We will never try to ban hunting,” she clarified. “Hunting is a Ancient tradition in Vermont. It is likely to be an extremely moral hunter. I know many moral hunters go out and kill a deer and use it to feed their entire family. This is one of the most moral ways you can get your meat. But unfortunately, Vermont has many ancient politics that can abuse wildlife. Therefore, I am actively working with the Legislature to change these policies. ”

Today, Parker hopes her journey will encourage others to support the cause they are passionate about.

“The service life changed my life,” she said. “It made me who I am today. It gave you the purpose of life. It gave you inspiration, it was in a world, frankly, the problem is the problem.
